Brick by Brick Ministries is a Christ-centered, inside-out prison and reentry ministry founded by J.B. Reconnu, who has spent nearly three decades incarcerated within the Texas correctional system. Built on firsthand experience, faith, and the belief that "Your crime and your time do not define who you are," our ministry serves incarcerated individuals, victims of crime, families, and the communities to which individuals will eventually return. We believe genuine transformation requires more than serving a sentence. It requires confronting destructive behavior, accepting responsibility, renewing the mind, and developing the discipline to make better decisions.
Our commitment to rehabilitation does not mean overlooking victims, excusing criminal behavior, or minimizing the harm caused by crime. Victims and their families deserve dignity, compassion, recognition, and safety. Accountability and rehabilitation must work together because meaningful change is not simply about giving someone another chance. It is about doing the work necessary to help prevent another victim.
Through faith-based guidance, rehabilitation education, family awareness, community involvement, and initiatives such as W.A.R. Zone, we strive to plant seeds of change from the inside out. We believe reentry begins the moment an individual enters the prison system, not when the gates open for release. By encouraging personal responsibility, educating families, and strengthening rehabilitation, our mission is to help individuals return to society prepared to contribute positively to their families and communities.

W.A.R. Zone — Warriors Advancing Righteously is an intensive, structured rehabilitation and educational initiative founded, authored, and developed by J.B. Reconnu under Brick by Brick Ministries. Born from lived experience within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's McConnell Unit in Beeville, Texas, the curriculum challenges incarcerated individuals to confront destructive thinking, examine past decisions, accept personal responsibility, and begin rebuilding their lives from the inside out.
Originally established in restrictive housing (administrative segregation), W.A.R. Zone has received approval to expand into general population. Through guided journaling, structured coursework, self-reflection, peer-led discussions, and accountability exercises, participants examine the influences, behaviors, trauma, and choices that shaped their lives. This is not about simply telling someone to change. It is about understanding why change is necessary, identifying what needs to change, and learning how to apply those lessons through everyday decisions and actions.
Led by J.B. Reconnu and supported by incarcerated peer facilitators, W.A.R. Zone extends beyond written coursework through group accountability, mentorship, rehabilitative activities, and participation in institutional events at McConnell. Built on the principle "Each One, Reach One, Teach One," the initiative encourages participants to become positive influences on others, demonstrating that lived experience can become a foundation for responsibility, leadership, and meaningful change.
W.A.R. Zone recognizes that rehabilitation does not erase the crime, excuse the harm caused, or diminish the suffering of victims and their families. True accountability means acknowledging those consequences and making a commitment to stop repeating destructive behavior. Reentry begins when an individual enters the prison gates, not when they walk back out. By addressing harmful thinking and behavior long before release, W.A.R. Zone works toward stronger rehabilitation, responsible reentry, healthier families, fewer future victims, and safer communities.

The Second Curriculum in the W.A.R. Zone Educational Series
Chemical Warfare — Hijacking of the Human Mind is an intensive educational curriculum developed by J.B. Reconnu under Brick by Brick Ministries. Rooted in lived experience and supported by medical and scientific knowledge, this second phase of W.A.R. Zone goes beyond telling somebody, "Don't do drugs." We're breaking down what happens to the human body and mind, why destructive cycles develop, and how a temporary escape can turn into a fight for survival.
From fentanyl and synthetic drugs to addiction and substance-related harm, the curriculum examines how dangerous chemicals affect the brain, nervous system, breathing, emotions, judgment, and physical control. It confronts overdose, impaired awareness, and the vulnerability to violence, exploitation, and sexual victimization when someone can no longer protect themselves. But not every battle involves a substance. Some of the most dangerous struggles happen silently, inside a person's own mind.
Chemical Warfare also enters the darker realities of incarceration: depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, unresolved trauma, and the psychological effects of prolonged isolation. In restrictive housing, where separation, loneliness, hopelessness, and the daily struggle to hold on to one's identity can take a serious toll. We examine how isolation, emotional pain, institutional pressures, and untreated mental health struggles can influence behavior, fuel substance use, and leave individuals feeling trapped long before their sentence ends.
Through structured lessons, real-life experiences, guided reflection, and accountability, participants will explore these interconnected struggles, recognize warning signs, understand the consequences, and learn healthier ways to respond. This isn't about judging somebody for what they're battling. It's about bringing those hidden struggles into the open, confronting destructive choices, and understanding when reaching for help can save a life.
Our mission is to strengthen rehabilitation through education, mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and personal responsibility. Because preparing someone for reentry means addressing more than their criminal history. It means recognizing the damage that can happen behind prison walls and working toward a future that doesn't create another victim.
The streets may have taught you how to survive, but surviving prison shouldn't mean losing yourself in the process.
